The Rest of Australia…

We arrived in Bundaberg after 15 hours on the bus, and were looking forward to a nice relaxing day or two. Things didn’t quite go according to plan! After walking around for about an hour in the searing heat, we eventually found the only hostel with rooms available in town, and booked in for the night. It very soon became apparent why it was the only hostel with space available - not only was the place practically falling down, but the ratio of inmates to cockroaches not in our favour. We very quickly booked our ticket out of there and headed on to Hervey Bay the following morning.

After our previous night’s experience, we were a bit nervous about the hostel, but luckily it was great. We spent a good couple of days relaxing on the beach in the sunshine and playing backgammon and messing around with the hostel owners puppy, which took a liking to my book and ripped it apart! There was also a ‘Keep Fit’ walkway along the seafront, which we both took very seriously indeed!

We then headed on to another beach town, Noosa, where we did pretty much the same as before, relaxing out on the beach and taking in the scenery.

Our hostel in Noosa had a poker night on our first night, and I managed to fluke my way to the final table of eight players, out of forty eight who started! Possibly an avenue to look down when looking for jobs when we get back…

A couple of days later, we headed for Brisbane, where our hotel room was inhabited by a Scotsman and a mouse, we spent a couple of days there looking around the city and enjoying the suprisingly good botanical gardens.
We then headed onto a campsite in Nambucca Heads, home of a flock of pelicans, and some great scenery, for Easter. We treated ourselves to an economy cabin as an Easter present! Nothing but the best will do. The campsite offered free bike hire, so we took full advantage and cycled around the area, taking in some great scenery.
We then made our way back to Sydney for a few days, before our flights out to Singapore, and decided to stay in the Kings Cross area, which is broadly similar to Soho in London. Great entertainment from the local drunks fighting in the streets to rather ropey looking ladies of the night. We spent a few days looking around bits of the city we missed last time, and another day relaxing on Manly beach, before catching our flight to Singapore on 17th.
We both thoroughly enjoyed Australia, though not as much as New Zealand- the scenery wasn't quite as spectacular and everything cost nearly twice as much! We can't wait for the next couple of months of the trip when we'll be taking in Singapore - staying with Dave and Storm, and Indonesia, staying goodness knows where!
